About the book
Watch your step Mr. Parkinson
The book is a very personal look at the disease that is referred to as Parkinson's Disease. It came about out of the need for the author to do something he felt was worthwhile after being forced into an early retirement by the malice behaviour of 'Parkee', an impish character who lives in his mind. Parkee personifies what the author finds annoying about PD and he uses the character to motivate himself to fight the disease and all it brings to his community.
The first few months were spent putting some thoughts on paper with nothing more than a vague concept of killing time while attempting to achieve something good in a world turned upside down by his Parkinsons' diagnosis.
Then after the sudden passing of his beloved younger sister, Snowy returned to the task about a year later with a renewed vigour and purpose. A friend was shown the first rough draft and gave some direct feedback. Snowy knew that he needed to make it personal and also he needed to involve others as well.
This was the genesis of "Watch your step, Mr Parkinson" as it is read now and enjoyed by many around the world.
It has a uniquely Australian perspective and is written, edited and published by Brisbane locals, with one exception being Craig James who lives in Sydney.
It is educational, encouraging and honest, touching on many issues of relevance to all those who are touched by 'Parkee'. Please enjoy it as there is nothing quite like Watch your step, Mr Parkinson.
